Professional Experience
1987 Worked as a Lifesaver for Warnadoone Lifesaving club in South Africa. 1988 – 1992 Company: Safmarine Joined South African Marine Corporation as an Engineering Cadet sailing on various types of cargo vessels. Successfully completed my marine engineering apprenticeship. 1992 – 1995 Company: Safmarine Promoted to 5th Engineer. Second in charge of engine room and responsible for monitoring of all machinery whilst on watch. Assisted senior engineer with maintenance and overhaul of Purifiers, Generators, Compressors (air and refrigeration), Pumps, Boilers, Incinerators, Water makers and associated equipment. Studied for Engineering Certificate of Competency. 1995 – 1999 Company: Safmarine Obtained Certificate of Competency as an Engineering Officer and was promoted to 4th Engineer. In charge of Engine room every third day and responsible for the transferring and purification of fuel and lubricating oils and the maintenance of purifiers (Alpha Laval, Mitsubishi, Westfalia), compressors (Hamworthy, Atlas Copco, Tamrotor) and pumps (centrifugal and gear types). 1999 – 2003 Company: Maersk Shipping Promoted to 3rd Engineer in 2000 when Safmarine bought by Maersk Shipping. In charge of engine room every third day and responsible for the planned maintenance and overhaul of diesel generators (Wartsila, Crepelle, Sulzer, B&W, Mitsui, MAN) and Main Engines (Sulzer, B&W). Gained invaluable experience on Macgregor, Liebherr and Hydra lift cranes and winch systems. Also gained certificate as Safety Officer and responsible for Safety Area Inspections, incident investigation/reporting and promotion of safe working practices. 2004 Sailed as extra engineer for World Wide Shipping to gain tanker endorsement. Mid year, employed as 2nd Engineer for Transhex Marine on Diamond mining vessels off the coast of Namibia looking after Detroit Diesel engines, diesel driven air compressors and hydraulic system of main mining plant. 2005 Employed with Essential Support Services in Iraq as a Generator technician, servicing and repairing Perkins, Caterpillar and Cummins generator sets. Currently employed as 3rd Engineer with Swire Pacific Offshore on AHTS vessels.
