Roxar awarded a contract to supply its revolutionary designed subsea multiphase flow meters to the deepwater Rosa oil field, off the Angolan coast. The contract was awarded by FMC Kongsberg, a subsidiary of FMC Technologies. FMC Kongsberg has a US$120 million contract with the field operator Total to supply subsea systems to the Rosa field.
Roxar is the leading provider of subsea multiphase instrumentation. Its light-weight flow meters are designed for maximum reliability, performance and flexibility. They provide accurate, continuous multiphase monitoring of the flow rates of oil, water and gas in the oil well stream. Each well has a jumper mounted meter with retrievable canisters containing electronics, CPU and power. The meters were selected as part of an international tendering process and consolidate Roxar’s increased presence in West Africa - a key target region for its industry leading subsea flow measurement solutions.
Discovered in 1998, the Rosa field is located 135 kilometers off the Angola coast in water depths ranging from 4,200 to 4,900 feet (1,300 to 1,500 meters). According to Total, the Rosa development will require 25 subsea wells - 14 producers and 11 injectors - which will be linked back to the Girassol Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) system 15 kilometers away. The new field is scheduled to come on stream in the first half of 2007, raising and prolonging the peak production of the Girassol FPSO.
Said Roxar CEO, Sandy Esslemont:
“As the oil and gas industry continually seeks to reduce costs and maximize production, the ability to remotely measure multiphase flows in real- time provides significant competitive advantage to E&P companies. This is particularly so in the subsea environment and we are delighted to be providing this competitive advantage to FMC Kongsberg and Total today.
“Roxar’s vision is to become the market leader in providing technology solutions to maximize reservoir performance. Through our world-leading flow measurement solutions and our commitment to working alongside customers as true technology partners, we look forward to helping Total and many others get the most out of assets at each and every stage of the oil field lifecycle.”
Roxar’s subsea multiphase flow meters make well testing operations quicker and more efficient as well as providing valuable new information for diagnosis and optimization of a well's performance. The meters are more accurate than separation-based systems because they are independent of separation efficiency and insensitive to slugs, foam, carry-overs and emulsions.
Roxar is a world-class provider of robust flow measurement instrumentation and is the market leader within multiphase metering. The instrumentation product portfolio also includes wet gas meters, watercut meters, flare gas meters and sand/pig detectors. Roxar is rising to the challenges of reservoir management and production optimization faced by all of the multinationals, major independents and National oil companies today.
FMC Kongsberg is part of FMC Technologies, Inc, a global leader providing mission-critical technology solutions for the energy, food processing and air transportation industries employing 8,600 people and operating 32 manufacturing facilities in 16 countries.
Total is ranked among the leading international oil companies on the African continent with a production of 723,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2003. In Angola, the Group operates the offshore Blocks 3 and 32 in addition to Block 17 and the onshore blocks FST and FS. Total is also a partner in Blocks 0, 2, 14, 31 and 33. Total’s production in Angola reached 160,000 barrels of oil a day in 2003.
