Converteam Chosen to Equip CLOV Offshore Angola Field

Converteam was awarded two contracts to supply electric equipment for the CLOV development located on the northwest sector of Angola's offshore Block 17. GE Oil & Gas chose Converteam for the supply of five complete Variable Speed Drive Systems including induction motors for the main gas compressors of the CLOV Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO). Converteam was also contracted by Sulzer to deliver two drives and the electric motors for the water injection pumps.

After successful orders for Yemen LNG (first helpers with induction motors) and Ofon platform in Nigeria (12MW export gas compressor). The Converteam MV7000 solution which has already proven effective is again selected for a project operated by Total. This high performance medium voltage drive offers outstanding performance and excellent reliability. Its compact design is also ideal in space constrained environment like on an FPSO. Besides, this electric solution contributes to reducing exhaust emissions and then to minimizing ecological footprint.

The CLOV project is the fourth development pole in Angola's deep offshore Block 17. This is a standalone development of a four-field cluster consisting of the oilfields Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea and Violeta. These oil fields (with associated gas) of which Sonangol, Angola's national oil company, is the concessionaire are operated by Total (40 percent share), in association with Statoil (23.33% share) Esso (20% share), and BP (16.66% share).

Christian Bozec, Oil & Gas Director at Converteam (France) declares: "This project is a premiere as it will be the first FPSO fully equipped with electric variable speed drives for process compressors and water injection pumps. Total power is about 50 MW. These contracts demonstrate the benefits of our MV7000 solutions for such application."

Delivery of the systems will begin in 2012 and the equipment will enter into operation in 2014.
