Harris CapRock Communications, a global provider of fully managed communications for remote and harsh environments, has been chosen by Odfjell Drilling to deliver turnkey Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) communications to seven of its mobile offshore drilling rigs and drill ships currently operating in the North Sea and Africa, as well as those under construction in South Korea. Communications for three of the rigs are new contracts and the other four are renewals. The contracts are valued at approximately $13 million USD, including options.
“We require an end-to-end communications service so that our clients and Odfjell Drilling can focus on the day-to-day drilling operations and not worry about our connectivity,” said Erik Kjaer Mjos, frame agreement manager with Odfjell Drilling. “The operators onboard our rigs and drill ships expect our assets to be well-equipped with the latest in communications technology to enable their real-time operations requirements. By choosing Harris CapRock, we know we will have dependable connectivity for our clients and partners.
Harris CapRock will deploy VSAT communications to enable Voice over IP (VoIP), corporate networking, Internet access, real-time monitoring and reporting, and crew infotainment services to the drilling units. The turnkey solution includes equipment, service and 24/7 support from Harris CapRock’s global infrastructure and Network Operation Centers (NOC).
“Odfjell Drilling places a high priority on the welfare and satisfaction of its remote personnel,” said Keith Johnson, president of Global Energy Services, Harris CapRock Communications. “With our crew infotainment service, Odfjell Drilling can provide entertainment including live TV to its crews and also distribute important corporate information such as training and health and safety information. We provide the equipment, service and management of the service so Odfjell has one point of contact for its infotainment requirements.”
