Oilmen Apply New Technologies of Well Workover

New technologies of well workover are successfully implemented in TATNEFT. New coiled tubing technologies have been introduced during the period of 2010 - 2011. 541 wells have been worked over with application of coiled tubing in OAO TATNEFT for 8 months of 2011. The number of operations is increasing each year with expansion of the technologies using coiled tubing units.

For example, the specialists of OAO TATNEFT jointly with OOO "Tatneft-RemServis" have successfully mastered and now apply the technology of survey and isolation of water influx in horizontal wells using inflatable packers. This technology includes a range of activities to identify aquifers and oil saturated areas in the open horizontal wellbores. In this case the inflatable packer temporarily isolates the oil saturated area for a period of technological operations.

For the purpose of improving the operations efficiency the Company has began using a so-called liquid-packer: polysaccharide gel with 48 hours destruction period instead of inflatable packers. The technology designed and improved by OAO TATNEFT's professionals allows identifying the water bearing intervals, shutting off oil saturated intervals with application of the liquid packer and performing targeted injection of the isolating material by intervals.

Delivery of the gel into a given interval is carried out by means of a flexible pipe. Setting the liquid packer unlike setting of the inflatable one does not require additional preparation of the wellbore and is more reliable in the production operations. Isolation works with application of the liquid packer allow treating a number of intervals in one cycle, since the gel does not prevent the change of the flexible pipe location.

Experimental pilot operations with application of the water isolation technology in horizontal wells using the liquid packer have been performed in 7 wells. After execution of the water isolation operations all the wells demonstrated water cut reduction and increase in oil production. On average the water cut of the wells has dropped from 99 to 59 percent, while the crude oil production increased from 0.2 to 3.5 tons per day.
