Marine-1 drilling rig has entered South Pars Gas Field area to start drilling in oil layer of the field, managing director of Petro Iran Company, Saeed Hafezi, said.
Speaking at a press conference, Hafezi said: the drilling rig is one of the most advanced ones which is smart and could be remotely controlled. The 9 thousand tons drilling rig is not only able to drill up to 15 wells without moving from one place to another place but can drill up to 7 thousand meters.
Even though purchasing drilling rigs is not among the inherent duties of Petro Iran Company, but it decided to buy Marine-1 drilling rig in order to speed up implementation of projects and completing infrastructures, the official said.
Speaking on the latest situation of South Pars gas field’s oil layer, Hafezi said: following setting up Marine-1 drilling rig, seven wells would be drilled. He also predicted oil production from the layer to be started before the end of current Iranian calendar year to March 2013.
He predicted in place oil reserves of South Pars oil layer to be more than earlier estimates which will be announced in near future.
On other projects of the company, Hafezi said: Petro Iran Company is studying development of Jofair oil field which includes finalization of its master development plan in next four months.
‘Equipping Jofair oil wells to well bore pumps in order to boosting oil production is another move which is expected to be finished in the next one month.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hafezi said Peto Iran Company plans to participate in other oil projects and is engaged in talks with Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Iranian Central Oil Fields Company and National Iranian Offshore Oil Company.
According to Hafezi the company needs another six drilling rigs to play a bigger role in oil and gas projects and plans to hold a bidding round to this end.
