Eni and Gazprom announce that a new company, South Stream AG, 50% owned respectively by Eni and Gazprom, has been incorporated today. The new company plans to complete the technical, economic and political feasibility study for the South Stream pipeline by the end of 2008.
South Stream is expected to bring 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia to the European Union.
Eni and Gazprom may jointly agree to accept other partners in the project.
In the first quarter of 2008, the Italian and Russian Governments and Eni and Gazprom will meet to define the roadmap for achieving intergovernmental agreements with the transit countries for the planned pipeline route. The project will be presented by the European Commission and discussed with the other European Union institutions.
