Officials for EcoEnergy and the Northern Illinois Municipal Power Agency (NIMPA) have signed an agreement for NIMPA to own and/or operate a part of the EcoBryn wind energy facility proposed in Ogle County. The proposed EcoBryn facility will generate about 100 MW of pollution-free electrical energy, enough to power more than 28,000 homes, each year. Under the agreement, NIMPA will own 10 to 15 MW of turbines built as part of the EcoBryn project.

“We are excited to move forward with NIMPA on the EcoBryn wind energy facility,” said Nick Rigas, EcoEnergy senior developer for wind energy projects in Illinois. “The residents of Batavia, Geneva and Rochelle asked that clean, green energy be a priority for their energy supplier, and NIMPA has demonstrated its dedication to their wish through its agreement with EcoEnergy.” The larger project provides the economies of scale to deliver renewable electricity to Northern Illinois residents at competitive prices.

The turbines for the EcoBryn project will come from the new Acciona Windpower production facility in West Branch, Iowa. Acciona Energy is the world’s most successful wind power developer, with its U.S. operations located in Chicago and international headquarters in Spain.
