Fluor Corporation has been awarded a contract from Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene (E-LAB) to manage the development of a new facility, located in Alexandria, Egypt. The completed facility, owned by E-LAB, will produce linear alkyl benzene, which is principally used in detergents. The contract value was not disclosed and was booked in Fluor's first quarter.
"This initial services award gives Fluor valuable early involvement in the new 20-year petrochemical master plan for Egypt," said Henry Van Dyke, a president responsible for Chemicals within Fluor's Industrial group.
Fluor employees from its Haarlem, Netherlands, office, supported by experts from the Chemical Technology Center in Greenville, S.C., will work closely with Egyptian engineering and construction contractors.
Work on the project began in December 2003, and Fluor started work on the project in February 2004. The team expects to complete the project in 30 months.
