RIYADH, September 17, 2003 -- Saudi Aramco has made a new gas discovery as announced by H.E. Ali I. Al-Naimi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. On July 10, the Awtad-1 well, discovered by Saudi Aramco, flowed 32 million cubic feet per day of sweet gas and 640 barrels per day of condensate from an open-hole test, conducted over the 'Unayzah Reservoir at 14,280 feet (4,353 meters). The Awtad-1 well is west of the Haradh area of the Ghawar Field and southeast of Riyadh.
Abd Allah S. Al-Saif, senior vice president, Exploration and Producing, thanked the dedicated teams whose expertise and hard work led to the discovery. "The experienced workforce of Saudi Aramco can always be counted on to maintain the company's strength in the hydrocarbon industry," he said.
