The ongoing and progressive evolution of digital technologies over the last few decades is one of the emerging trends and promises to transform the entire industry chain.
The rapid technological advances in parallel computing, advanced sensing, wireless transmission technologies, robotics and data-driven analytics and machine learning, will allow the transition to real-time asset management, to facilities demanning, and to new company-contractor cooperation patterns, based on shared design platforms, both during the project design and construction phase.
This scenario will allow capital and operational costs cutting, reduction of production down time as well as project execution time, with early cash flows, and therefore increased competitiveness, while ensuring higher quality standards, security and environmental protection.
The third industrial revolution with the internet of things has been producing large volumes of unstructured data, which arrive very fast and with different level of reliability on a daily basis. This generates the so-called Big Data era which is a challenge to traditional business models.
To meet this challenge the Industry 4.0 needs a proactive approach to Big Data management through central hubs and platforms capable of storing, processing and analyzing in real time massive data coming from several sources and in all forms and sizes.
REM 2018 conference will gather the top technological players of the digital industry, of the O&G companies, of the contractors and service providers to debate on the current application of these technologies, the major technological and organizational barriers, the prospects for a wider implementation on an industrial scale.
Being the real driving force in digital technology development, innovation will be at the centre of the discussion especially for the major Italian Universities involved in the National Programme “Industry 4.0”.
