Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 3/2/2012, Location: Africa

Several new oil fields have been discovered in Adeela Locality in north Darfur State whose reserves will further offset the loss of oil revenues lost after secession of the South, Mastoor Abdul Magid, commissioner of the Locality revealed. According to Mastoor, the ownership of discovered oil fields is disputed by Adeela Locality (East Darfur State) and Gibaish Locality (North Kordofan State).

Mastoor told reporters in the town of Ad-Daeim that the two Localities and native administrators of the two areas reached a temporary agreement pending demarcation of the border which will be supervised by the Decentralized Government Chambers, adding that many citizens have been affected by the ongoing mining operations and lack of compensations and recruitment of local youths in the oil companies. He said some unruly youths of the areas where the oil wells are located caused trouble by demanding to be employed in the companies but “an agreement is reached whereby the youths would be employed”. He called on the companies to focus on development in the region.

Meanwhile, commissioner of Abu Karinka Locality, Ahmed Tindil Adam, said huge reserve of oil is avail in the Adeela and Abu Karinka Localities which experts said would help Sudan to overcome current economic crisis caused by the loss of oil revenues. Tindil said the last oil well discovered is in Abu Karinka Locality in Shuq Al-Dud area and experts estimated to be the second largest field after the Iraqi Karkuk oil field.

Leader of the Ma’liya tribe, Mohamed Ahmed Al-Safi, said the compensations paid to the citizens affected by the work at the oil field is very low and unsatisfactory, adding the companies operating in the field of oil promised to render development services to the area. “We have agreed with the oil companies on the need for development, employment and compensation for the affected population” he said, adding that the companies have committed themselves to the agreement. Al-Safi promised protection of the oil fields by the civil administration.
