Hydraulic Fracturing Technique - Pre and Post Fracture Reservoir Analysis and Log Interpretation
Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Cauvery Asset, Karaikal
The project is a case study on a hydraulically fractured gas well in the Cauvery Basin. The study is about the pre-fracture and post-fracture modified isochronal test and build-up test conducted in a gas well to check whether the fracturing job was a successful one. Post fracture temperature log was also studied to identify the fracture top and fractured region. The result shows that the gas well was successfully fractured.
The following recommendations were kept forth: Hydraulic fracturing is recommended for low permeability and damaged formation to increase the well productivity as the same will not be improved if the fracture does not extend beyond the damaged formation; use of low concentration of propants for proper propant placements is advised; in case of frac-pack, higher concentration of propants near the well bore is encouraged for greater annular packing efficiency.
Self Appraisal: The keen analysis of reservoir study conducted to verify effectiveness of the hydraulic fracturing was appreciated by the ONGC reservoir team notably the Chief Reservoir Engineer and Senior Stimulation Engineer. The report submitted is sent for further study to treat it as a base document for future studies.
