Empowering EV Adoption: GeoPura HPU supports the launch of the new Cadillac Lyriq

GeoPura recently supported the launch of the new Cadillac Lyriq in France, with our zero-emission EV charging solution. Blending history with innovation, the all-electric Cadillac LYRIQ was unveiled in the town of Cadillac-sur-Garonne in March, marking a 120-year connection with the town.

Together with the Mayor of Cadillac, Cadillac Europe has provided three new double EV charging points for use by the town. These charging points are powered by electricity generated on-site via a GeoPura HPU, green hydrogen-fuelled generator.

The new charging station not only supports the creation of the town’s EV ecosystem but also facilitates the transition to electric vehicles in areas where the local grid infrastructure is unable to meet charging demands.

Why hydrogen?

The transition to electric vehicles (EVs) is pivotal for achieving sustainability goals and reducing carbon emissions. However, one of the significant challenges hindering widespread EV adoption lies in areas where the existing grid infrastructure cannot support the increased demand for electric charging.

Recognising the need for robust EV charging infrastructure capable of meeting the demands of its EV consumers, Cadillac Europe partnered with GeoPura to provide an alternative solution.

GeoPura’s HPU technology utilises green hydrogen—a clean and renewable energy source—to generate electricity onsite. This can be utilised independent of the grid or in support of the local grid to manage peak charging demands.

GeoPura HPUs leverage the process of electrolysis to produce hydrogen gas from water, using renewable energy sources such as wind or solar power. The hydrogen gas is then stored and converted back into electricity through fuel cells as needed to power EV charging stations. This ensures a sustainable and reliable energy supply for charging EVs, mitigating the strain on the grid and reducing carbon emissions from fossil fuel alternatives.

In the town of Cadillac-sur-Garonne, France, where grid capacity is currently insufficient to support the increasing demand for EV charging, GeoPura HPUs were deployed to establish a reliable charging infrastructure, supporting the launch event and enabling residents and visitors to charge their vehicles conveniently and sustainably longer term.

This initiative not only supports the transition to electric mobility but also showcases the potential of decentralised hydrogen-based power solutions to address grid limitations across France, where the focus on electrification is accelerating.
