Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a virtual public meeting April 30 to discuss the 2023 safety performance of the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant. The four-unit plant is in eastern Georgia near Augusta and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co.

The meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m. Eastern time on Microsoft Teams. The conference number for those without access to Teams is 301-576-2978, passcode 636331380#. NRC staff responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to answer questions.

In July 2023, Vogtle Unit 4 transitioned from the Construction Reactor Oversight Process to the Reactor Oversight Process after receiving authorization to load fuel and begin operation. The unit began startup testing in mid-2023 and continues to prepare to enter commercial operation.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow, or red, corresponding with the safety significance of the issues involved. If an inspection finding or performance indicator has more than a very low safety significance, the NRC increases its oversight.

The annual assessment letters for Vogtle 1 & 2 and Vogtle 3 & 4, including upcoming inspection plans, are available on the NRC website. Current performance information for each unit is also available on the NRC website and updated quarterly.
