The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has proposed a $9,000 civil penalty against Great Falls
Clinic Hospital, in Great Falls, Montana, for two violations of NRC requirements associated with
the failure to provide appropriate written directives for the use of radioactive materials.
The NRC identified the violations during inspections in 2023. Details of the inspections
were documented in a February 2024 report.
In written responses to the NRC, hospital officials discussed the apparent violations, their
significance, their root cause, and corrective actions. Based on the inspections and the hospital’s
responses, the NRC determined that two violations of agency requirements occurred.
The hospital has 30 days to pay or dispute the fine, or request involvement from a neutral
third-party mediator to resolve the issue.
