Bruce Power has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, which highlights its efforts in creating a sustainable future while playing an important role in securing clean energy for tomorrow.

The 2024 Sustainability Report focuses on the company’s efforts to strengthen communities, support provincial and federal carbon reduction goals, contribute to economic growth and innovation, and its commitment to environmental protection.

The report provides clear and meaningful disclosure of the company’s sustainability commitments and performance, focusing on 33 key indicators. Performance in each of these areas is monitored year over year, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and targets are set to drive continuous improvement.

“Bruce Power is proud to deliver non-emitting, clean, reliable, low-cost nuclear power to families and businesses across Ontario, and to produce and supply cancer-fighting medical isotopes across the globe,” said Danielle La Croix, Senior Director, Environment, Sustainability and Net Zero. “In doing so, we strive to make a positive impact on our community while contributing to economic growth, innovation and environmental protection.”

Continuing the trend of annual improvement, Bruce Power achieved its lowest (most favourable) Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) risk rating of 12.6, maintaining a ‘Low Risk’ rating from leading third-party ESG rating agency Morningstar Sustainalytics. Bruce Power’s strong ESG Risk Rating also earned it a place on Sustainalytics’ 2024 list as ESG Industry Top Rated and ESG Regional Top Rated, recognizing the company as a top performer in its respective industry and region.

Bruce Power is continuing to contribute to a net zero Canada by 2050 by committing to achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its site operations by 2027, making it the first nuclear operator in North America to make such an ambitious commitment. In 2023, Bruce Power met its annual GHG emissions reduction target, with a 25% reduction in net emissions from a 2019 baseline.

As a leading producer of emissions-free electricity for the province, Bruce Power now offers Clean Energy Credits (CECs) to help Ontario-based corporate electricity customers reach their environmental and sustainability goals.

The company continues to support local sustainability projects, including the ALUS New Acre Project, which supports nature-based carbon sequestration opportunities and the protection and enhancement of local ecosystems across 600 acres of projects on agricultural land in Bruce and Grey counties.

Bruce Power is committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) in its workplace and continues along this journey by strengthening and expanding programs to sustain an accessible and positive environment that provides opportunities for everyone.
