Solarpack has connected a new solar photovoltaic solar plant to the grid, bringing 144 megawatts (MW) of capacity online in the municipality of Montería, Colombia.
The new PV plant, La Unión, will generate an amount of electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 132,000 households and will avoid the carbon emissions of more than 123,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
With an investment of US$ 100 million, this project now supplies clean energy to the Colombian electric grid. The construction of La Union generated 1,276 jobs, most of which were filled by local workers.
Reaching official commercial operation of the La Unión project represents a significant milestone in Colombia's energy transition and reaffirms Solarpack's growth strategy in the region.
Leo Moreno, Solarpack’s global CEO, commented: “"We are very proud of our team for having executed this project to commercial operation. This milestone reinforces our commitment to support Colombia in its effort to reach its energy transition goals. Through our rapidly growing Latin America business unit, La Union consolidates our presence in Colombia and furthers Solarpack's commitment to sustainable growth in the region."
