Under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul Ghani, and in the presence of the Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs, Mr. Bassem Muhammad Khudair, a contract was signed today for the implementation of the 3D seismic survey of the Qayyarah field within Nineveh Governorate, with the Angolan company Sonangol.
The Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs said: “On behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, today we attended the signing of the contract to implement a 3D seismic survey by the Petroleum Exploration Company and the operator, the Angola company Sonangol, in the Qayyarah field.” He added, “The implementation of this contract achieves the strategic vision.” For the oil sector by involving national companies in implementing oil projects in harmony with future plans. We thank Sonangol for referring this contract to the oil exploration company, and we are confident that the contract will be implemented in accordance with international standards and within the specified time period.”

For his part, the Director General of the Petroleum Exploration Company, Mr. Osama Raouf Hussein, expressed his happiness with the signing of the contract, saying: “With God’s help, a contract to implement the three-dimensional seismic survey for the Qayyarah field was signed between the Petroleum Exploration Company and the Angola company Sonangol. This contract will be implemented with 100% pure national staff.” With an area of ??135 square kilometers for the benefit of the North Oil Company, indicating that the project has a large hydrocarbon return, in addition to employing 350 national workers in the areas surrounding the project.
He pointed out, “The Qayyarah field is one of the most important fields in Nineveh Governorate, and has promising hydrocarbon potential. Three-dimensional seismic surveys will be conducted in accordance with this contract to explore the quantities of oil and gas present in it, which will hopefully supply refineries with large quantities of crude oil.”
For his part, Director of Sonangol Company, Mr. Jonathan Hall Royd, expressed his happiness at signing this contract with the oil exploration company, describing the event as “an important stage for the recovery of the region and the creation of new job opportunities for its local residents.” He stressed his company's true commitment to implementing the contract and developing the Qayyarah field, using the expertise of the Oil Exploration Company.
