Today, Monday, July 8, marked the groundbreaking ceremony of AESC's future gigafactory for batteries in Navalmoral de la Mata, Cáceres. The plant is scheduled to begin production in 2026 and be among the first facilities to develop and manufacture advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries at scale throughout Europe. Attendees to the event included AESC’s newly appointed CEO for the United States and Europe Knudt Flor, together with the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, and the mayor of Navalmoral de la Mata, Enrique Hueso.

This plant represents a significant investment and boost for the development of the sustainable mobility sector, the energy transition and the battery supply chain in the region of Extremadura and the rest of the Spanish territory.

The gigafactory will focus on the manufacture and development of advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries and will become the first carbon neutral gigafactory in Spain as a part of the Net Zero Industrial Park. It is estimated that the gigafactory, which will have an investment of over 1 billion euros for its first phase, will create up to 900 direct jobs upon completion, with the possibility of expanding employment as demand and production increases.

AESC is collaborating with local universities and regional authorities to create a training program to ensure workers in the region are trained for jobs in the facility.

During the event, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, stressed that "It is a project that will undoubtedly help to boost the region, not only helping to create hundreds of jobs in its initial phase, but also because it positions Extremadura". Likewise, the President indicated that the Government is committed to attracting foreign investment, as is the case of AESC, which is committed to the creation of stable, decent and quality employment.

AESC CEO for the United States and Europe, Knudt Flor, emphasized the gigafactory's long-term vision and its commitment to grow the electrification supply chain while providing state-of-the-art batteries. He highlighted the potential of the facility to promote technological and economic development in Extremadura, as well as to promote collaboration between different actors in the field of sustainable mobility and renewable energy.

The President of the Regional Government of Extremadura, María Guardiola, celebrated the step was taken today, which marks the start of the start-up of the gigafactory, thus valuing the responsibility and enthusiasm of the region for a project of this magnitude, and also reaffirming the commitment of the Regional Government of Extremadura with AESC: "The Regional Government's mission is to enable young people from Extremadura to make their life project in their land", highlighting the provision by the Regional Government to AESC of the entire dual vocational training system and employment services to select the professional profiles that the gigafactory will need.

For the President of the Regional Government, the gigafactory is an exciting project and an opportunity for Extremadura to compete with many European regions in industrial matters and to continue growing along the path of the green economy and energy transition.

The battery gigafactory in Navalmoral de la Mata is projected to become a benchmark in the sector, generating high-quality employment and boosting the local economy.

With the laying of the first stone of the battery gigafactory in Navalmoral de la Mata, the foundations are laid for a sustainable and prosperous future in Navalmoral de la Mata, Extremadura and Spain, where electric mobility and clean energies are positioned as fundamental pillars for the preservation of the environment and economic development.
