The Serra do Assuruá Wind Complex, ENGIE Brasil Energia’s investment in the municipality of Gentio do Ouro, state of Bahia, is now operating commercially. The first.
15 generator units began commercial operations this Tuesday, August 6 following authorization received from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
This initial commercial activity represents 8% of the total installed capacity. The Serra Assuruá Complex is to comprise 24 wind farms, with 188 wind turbines and a total installed capacity of 846 MW when complete.
“With a total investment of the order of R$ 6.0 billion and the creation of approximately 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, the startup in commercial operations of the first units at Serra do Assuruá is the result of a combination of the Company’s financial discipline and the capacity of execution of the projects”, said Eduardo Takamori, Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer.
“The beginning of commercial operations ahead of schedule at Serra do Assuruá is a milestone in the implementation of one of the largest wind energy projects ever constructed in a single phase by the ENGIE Group in Brazil and the world, with conclusion expected before the end of 2025. A project totally developed by ENGIE Brasil Energia, implementation of the Serra do Assuruá Wind Complex began in March 2023 and is a project totally developed by ENGIE Brasil Energia. This is the fourth wind complex in the state of Bahia where the Company already operates the Umburanas, Campo Largo 1 and Campo Largo 2 wind complexes commercially in the cities of Sento Sé and Umburanas, surpassing a combined 1 GW of installed power.
