Iraq Ministry of Oil Signs Contracts to Develop 13 Exploration Patches and Oil Fields

Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani stressed the ministry's keenness and serious efforts to maximize oil production, as well as optimal investment in gas through the development of oil and gas fields and exploratory patches. This came during his sponsorship of the initialing ceremony for contracts to develop exploratory patches for oil fields that were referred to companies during the competitions of the fifth and sixth supplementary licensing rounds, which were held during the first half of this year. The Ministry of Oil signed 13 initialed contracts today, Wednesday, with the winning companies to develop fields and exploratory patches within the fifth and sixth supplementary licensing rounds.

The Minister added that these contracts will add large quantities of oil production estimated at 750 thousand barrels per day, in addition to investing 850 cubic meters per day of gas, noting that these quantities and production and investment capacities of gas aim to achieve flexibility in equipping power generation stations with gas fuel, in addition to supporting the energy sector in Iraq.

The Minister pointed out that the Ministry signed with the winning companies the initials of contracts for developing oil fields and exploration blocks, where the contract for the Al-Faw exploration block, the Jabal Sanam exploration block, the Sumer exploration block, the Abu Khaima exploration block, the Daima field, the Allan and Sasan exploration block, the Al-Khulaisiya exploration block, the Al-Qarnain exploration block, the Zurbatiya exploration block, the (7) exploration block, the Al-Dhafriya exploration block, the East Baghdad field, and the Middle Euphrates fields were signed.

In addition, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, Basem Muhammad Khadir, said that these contracts that were signed today will be sent to the Ministerial Council for Energy to obtain approvals for the purpose of conducting the final signing of the contracts in order to begin implementing the development operations, indicating that these projects will improve the economic reality of the country and provide the quantities of gas required for self-sufficiency. It is noteworthy that the fifth and sixth supplementary licensing rounds continued for three days.

The first day:
The Chinese company ZEPC won the contracts to develop the East Baghdad field and the Middle Euphrates fields, while the Iraqi company KAR won the contracts to develop the Dima field in Maysan and the Allan and Sasan fields in Nineveh Governorate. The Chinese company UEG won the contract to develop the Faw block in Basra, the Chinese company Zhenhua won the contract to develop the Al-Qarnain block in the governorates of Najaf and Anbar, and the company GEO-JADE won the development of the Zurbatiya block in Wasit Governorate.

Day Two:
The Chinese company Sinopec won the development of the "Sumer" exploration block in Muthanna Governorate, and the exploration block (7) that extends across the governorates of "Diwaniyah, Najaf, Babylon, Wasit and Muthanna" was developed by the Chinese company CNOOC, and the Chinese company Anton Oil won the development of the Dhafriya field in Wasit Governorate, and the Chinese company "Zhenhua" won the development of the "Abu Khaima" block in Muthanna Governorate near the Iraqi-Saudi border. Geo-Jade won the development of the "Jabal Sanam" exploration block in Basra Governorate on the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border.

Day Three:
The Iraqi company Kar won the investment in the Al-Khulaisiyah block that extends within the governorates of Nineveh and Anbar on the Iraqi-Syrian border.
