At the end of August a new automated container loader arrived by sea from Latvia to Stockholm Norvik Port. This investment increases the capacity at Ports of Stockholm and enhances the service to meet the needs of the Swedish export industry for containerization of cargo.

With its strategic location, Stockholm Norvik Port plays a crucial role in the Swedish export market. A container loader offers a completely new way of cargo stuffing service, creating more efficient opportunities for industries such as forestry and steel products.

"Unlike all other ports in Sweden, Ports of Stockholm has a surplus of empty containers, and there is a high demand for containers from the Swedish export industry. As one of the largest import ports, we can make a significant difference. With a new container loader, we can efficiently and sustainably handle goods while contributing to more cost-effective freight management," says Johan Wallén, Chief Commercial Officer Ports of Stockholm.

The container terminal at Stockholm Norvik Port is operated by Hutchison Ports, one of the world’s largest container operators with 54 ports in 25 countries. Through the collaboration with Hutchison Ports, Stockholm is strongly integrated into the global freight market.

"We are positive about the investment in a container loader by Ports of Stockholm. With it in operation, Stockholm Norvik Port expands its service scope, and the container stuffing process becomes significantly more efficient. Additionally, we further strengthen the infrastructure for the Swedish export industry," says Lawrence Yam, CEO Hutchison Ports Stockholm.

The container loader arrived at Stockholm Norvik Port by sea from Latvia with Stena Line. The automated functions make it one of the most advanced solutions for goods transshipment in Sweden. Ports of Stockholm’s stevedoring team can now load 30 tons of goods into a 40-foot container in just five minutes. In addition to saving time, safety at the port is also improved as loading is carried out in a stable, controlled, and secure manner, reducing the risk of accidents.
