Iraq Completes First Multilateral Oil Well in Record Time, Doubles Production

The Ministry of Oil has completed drilling the first multi-section oil well in the East Baghdad South field in record time, using modern methods and technology, and with double production quantities. The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, Mr. Bassem Mohammed Khudair, confirmed that the Ministry has ambitious plans that come in implementation of the government's directives, the government program, and the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil aimed at developing the oil and gas industry, to sustain crude oil production operations and optimal gas investment, to achieve economic development, and secure the needs of power generation stations and other industrial uses, noting that the Ministry has completed drilling the first multi-arm oil well in the East Baghdad South field today in record time and at a low economic cost and with double production quantities, using advanced drilling technology.

The Undersecretary pointed out that the company operating the field, the Chinese EBS Company, has succeeded in developing the field and has reached production rates of (40) thousand barrels per day, and we aspire to increase production from the field, which supplies the Al-Quds Power Plant in Baghdad and the Dora Refinery with quantities of crude oil.

He added that the development of the field benefits the surrounding areas, through the employment of workers, in addition to the social benefits provided in the fields of education, health and infrastructure projects. The Director General of the Central Oil Company, Mr. Mohammed Yassin Hassan, said that the drilling of the well was carried out under the supervision of the company and is one of the wells with multiple sections and arms and is one of the new experiments in drilling using modern technology, and the drilling operations were carried out in two sections, the first with a length of (1215) meters and the second with a length of (1503) meters, indicating that the drilling operations began at the end of last June with an implementation period of (82), and thanks to the exceptional efforts and continuous cooperation between the company and the main operator of the field (the Chinese company EBS), the drilling operations were completed in a period less than the scheduled period of (12) days.
