CNPC Masters Hexylene-1 Production Technology

CNPC's first major science and technology project on refining and chemicals, Industrialized experiment and development of technology package for hexylene-1 production, saw breakthrough progress. The technology package for hexylene-1 production with CNPC's independent intellectual property rights is already on top of the nation, and can peer with internationally advanced level.

Hexylene-1 is a major comonomer of polyethylene. The polyethylene resin made of hexane-1 features excellent tensile strength, shock resistance and tear resistance. Hexylene-1 materials used by CNPC have long been dependent on import. The relatively high price has added extra cost for polyethylene production.

In June 2007, by using self-developed pilot plant test technology which integrates catalyst, techniques and reactor, CNPC built a 5Kt/a hexylene-1 unit for industrial test at Daqing Petrochemical, and independently developed a technology package for hexylene-1 production, which has supported the building of a 20Kt/a hexylene-1 unit at Dushanzi Petrochemical.

The 5Kt/a hexylene-1 unit was put into trial run at Daqing Petrochemical in October 2008, and produced high quality hexylene-1 products with a purity of 99% in November.

In December 2009, Daqing Petrochemical conducted a commercial test on its 80Kt/a LLDPE unit, successfully produced 350 tons HF-7042 polyethylene.
