Clean Energy Solutions company Enviromena has strengthened its presence in Aberdare, South Wales by supporting further local initiatives ahead of the construction of a second solar farm project set to begin in the new year.

During the build of its first project in 2023, a 30 acre, 8.99MWp solar farm at Bryngolwg Farm in Rhigos, Enviromena supported the local community by providing Rhigos Community Council with funding for a solar system on the roof of the Rhigos Community Hall.

Following the success of the initial project in Rhigos, planning consent has now been secured to build a second 9.9MWp solar farm adjacent to the Bryngolwg site, with construction due to commence at the start of 2025. The second project will generate over 10,500MWhs of clean energy per annum, avoiding over 2,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Building on relationships established during the first project, Enviromena has agreed to fund the installation of a battery energy storage system to accompany previously funded Enviromena solar PV system at the Rhigos Community Hall. The combined green energy upgrades have the potential to provide energy savings of over £250,000 throughout the lifetime of the two solar farm projects as well as significantly lowering carbon emissions.

Enviromena’s CEO, Chris Marsh, commented: “Where we can, we like to extend our sustainability credentials beyond the build of our renewable energy projects. We provided funding for solar PV on the roof of Rhigos Community Centre as part of our community consultation efforts on our first project in Rhigos, and we’re delighted to be able to fund the installation of battery energy storage as part of our second project.”

In addition to the upgrades to the community hall, Enviromena has also provided vital funding to two local grass roots sports teams by sponsoring Llwydcoed FC and Aberdare RFC.

Chris has special links with Aberdare RFC, having played for their junior teams in his youth and with the club’s recent promotion to the second tier of amateur rugby union in Wales this year, the club were delighted that Enviromena could step in and sponsor the new kit, cementing the relationship further.

“We’ve had two consecutive promotions to get to this level in the Championship,” said the club’s chairman, Darrell Williams. “I’m so proud of this fantastic achievement by our club.

“With funding being so tight, and ever-greater pressures on us to perform, if it wasn’t for our sponsors we couldn’t exist. We’re so grateful to Enviromena for their support and we’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to them.”

Chris went on to add: “The residents have fully supported both projects, and we place a lot of value in the relationships we’ve built. Rhigos Solar Farm received no objections from the local community which is something we’re very proud of. Across all our projects we strive to develop and get involved with local initiatives. We have several projects in and around Aberdare, and we’re proud to be involved with a range of community efforts.” Enviromena is committed to leading the transition to a world powered by clean energy by providing safe, affordable and reliable clean energy solutions to customers across the UK and Europe.
