International operator of energy terminals KN Energies has incorporated a German subsidiary, KN Energies Deutschland GmbH, within its corporate group. The new company will be responsible for the efficient performance of its commitment to Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH (DET), the German state-owned company, in the field of technical O&M services for the second floating LNG import terminal at Wilhelmshaven 2.

“As we continue to implement KN Energies' long-term strategy, we are successfully bringing the company's longstanding experience to foreign markets. In the first half of this year KN Energies won two tenders launched by Deutsche Energy Terminals, which we consider a sign of the German state-owned company's confidence in our competence and the quality of our services. We are delighted to remain a leader in the market of floating LNG import terminals in the European Union, successfully contributing to energy independence projects in European countries. The joint company in Germany will allow us to apply our competences in this country, be located nearby and to achieve a long-term partnership with our key partner in Germany,” says Linas Kilda, Chief Business Development Officer at KN Energies.

Similarly to the Brazilian subsidiary KN Açu Servicos de Terminal de GNL LTDA, all shares in the German subsidiary are held entirely by companies within the KN Energies group. The new company is registered in Wilhelmshaven, Lower Saxony. KN Energies Deutschland GmbH team, which will implement the contractual obligations for DET, will involve specialists in human resources, health, safety and environment (HSE), as well as mechanical, electrical and automation engineering, operations and maintenance management. Active recruitment of team members is currently being conducted.

Once the commercial operation of the terminal starts, KN Energies group of companies will be responsible for the technical operation and maintenance of the terminal's infrastructure – the berth, its equipment and the pipeline, the organization of technical teamwork, and the coordination of preventive actions.

KN Energies won the tender launched by DET in the spring of 2024 to provide services for the terminal. The contract with DET was signed for a pre-operational period up to the start of commercial operation of the terminal, followed by a five-year technical operation and maintenance period, with the possibility to extend the contract. KN Energies will contribute to Germany its successful experience, since 2014 gained as LNG terminal operator in Klaipeda, and since 2020 by carrying out the technical and commercial operations of the LNG terminal in the Brazilian port of Açu. The German team members will be supported by skilled KN Energies staff from Lithuania and will be trained in the necessary operational knowledge.
