Leading global offshore wind developer Corio Generation has joined with more than 100 international organisations and companies in endorsing an open letter calling on world leaders to deliver ambitious, specific and actionable renewable energy targets in their national climate plans.
Organised by the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA), the letter titled “Now Deliver Change” - which is published as a full-page advert in the New York Times - urges governments meeting at the United Nations General Assembly to translate commitments made at COP28 to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 into concrete national plans and projects.
The letter calls for governments' climate plans, known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), to provide market certainty and promote investments in clean energy.
The letter calls for national targets that are:
Ambitious: Aligned with the 1.5°C climate goal and the COP28 commitments.
Specific: Including quantifiable renewable energy capacity targets for 2030 and 2035.
Actionable: Supported by robust energy, resource, and investment plans to provide the necessary certainty for both the industry and financial sectors.
The campaign also highlights the need for global targets for grid infrastructure and energy storage – critical components for a swift and secure transition to renewable energy.
