Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) released the first result of Coalition for LNG Emission Abatement toward Net-zero (CLEAN initiative), CLEAN Annual Report 2024, at the LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2024.
JOGMEC published the CLEAN Annual Report 2024, the first results of the CLEAN initiative at the LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2024 co-hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) on October 6, 2024. CLEAN initiative is a project jointly launched by JERA Co., Inc. (JERA) and Korea Gas Corporation at the LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2023, to reduce methane emissions and ensure transparency across the LNG value chain by LNG buyers working together with LNG producers.
In the CLEAN Annual Report 2024, JOGMEC compiled information on methane emissions and reduction efforts on a project basis for the first time in the world, based on the results of a survey on methane emission reductions among producers, distributed by JERA and KOGAS based on their LNG Sales and Purchase Agreements (SPAs). In addition, JOGMEC announced at the LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2024 that 22 companies will newly participate in the CLEAN initiative. This is expected to enhance further methane emission reductions and transparency across the LNG value chain.
JOGMEC will provide useful information not only for introducing advanced methane emission reduction efforts by producers, but also for enhancing methane emission visibility for consumers to pursue clean LNG, thereby making clean LNG competitive. As a result, JOGMEC will strengthen activities that contribute to the cleanness of the entire value chain.
