Call for interest for the construction of hydrogen infrastructure between Dunkirk & Belgian border

Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 10/16/2024, Location: Europe

This document (the " Infrastructure Proposal Port of Dunkirk - Belgian Border ") presents certain information concerning hydrogen transport, which is considered to be a solution for achieving decarbonisation objectives. The information contained in this document reflects the point of view of GRTgaz S.A. at this stage and is made public for information purposes only and without any commitment on the part of GRTgaz S.A., and should not be considered as giving rise to any contractual relationship between GRTgaz S.A. and any interested party

Description of the proposed infrastructure
As part of the call for market interest launched by GRTgaz to test the economic interest of a hydrogen transport infrastructure linking the Port of Dunkirk to the Belgian border, the hydrogen transmission network infrastructure proposed by GRTgaz will be connected to the hydrogen transmission network developed at the Port of Dunkerque (DHUNE project) as far as the border with Belgium, to connect with the transmission network proposed by Fluxys, the description of which is given in Fluxys' reference documents, available at the following link :

https://www.fluxys.com/en/hydrogen/empowering-you/customer-interactions/call-for-market-interest-h2-crossborder-2024

This proposed network is shown in green on the map below. At this stage, it is located mainly in areas away from urban centres and avoids the areas of ecological interest identified in this region:

This proposal, which is indicative at this stage, gives an idea of the most likely network that could be set up and shows the areas suitable for connecting hydrogen production and consumption sites.

Depending on the feedback received from market players in response to the call for market interest, adjustments to this route may be considered.

It is therefore entirely possible to respond to this call for market interest with a project that is not directly located on the pre-identified route.

The more detailed technical aspects of the infrastructure (sizing of the pipelines, description of the supply and delivery stations, operating conditions, etc.) will be specified at a later date, once the technical studies have been completed, which will make it possible to define the optimum solution in terms of the transmission requirements expressed by all the market players who responded to the call for market interest.

Finally, in the longer term, this cross-border network project could develop in France beyond the Port of Dunkirk and the border area towards the hinterland and further afield towards other French regions as the market develops and a national hydrogen transport network is implemented.
