The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Mr. Hamid Younis, confirmed that the Ministry, through the continuous follow-up of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul-Ghani, announces today, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the re-operation of the Karbala refinery after carrying out maintenance operations on it.
The Undersecretary confirmed that the production operations of derivatives will be within days, reaching maximum capacities, indicating that the production quantities are estimated at 2800 m3 per day of super gasoline, reaching the maximum production capacity of the material 3800 m3 per day, and 2800 m3 of improved gasoline reaching the maximum capacity of 3800 m3 per day, and 2500 m3 per day of gas oil (kerosene) reaching the maximum capacity of 4000 m3 per day, and 1800 m3 of white oil reaching the maximum capacity of 2500 m3 per day, and 5750 m3 of heavy fuel oil reaching the maximum capacity of 8500 m3 per day.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Refining Affairs visited the refinery and conducted an inspection tour of the production units, stressing the need to adhere to the Ministry's plans and timings, as well as closely reviewing the work of restarting the refinery, and its great importance in meeting the consumer need for petroleum derivatives and supporting the national economy. The Undersecretary chaired an expanded meeting attended by the Karbala Refinery Projects Authority and the Korean company operating the refinery, to discuss a number of technical and administrative matters related to the work, stressing the need to take all measures to prepare the necessary requirements in order to complete the commitment of each of the parties concerned to the final receipt of the Karbala Refinery from the implementing company on 12/15/2024, stressing the need to mobilize all available capabilities to sustain the work of this great economic achievement that will secure high-quality petroleum products and achieve the economic development stipulated in the government program.
