Grenergy has taken a new step in the expansion of its
emblematic Oasis de Atacama by closing a strategic agreement with the technology
company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited known as CATL, the world's
leading battery manufacturer committed to providing premier solutions in new energy
innovation. This new agreement will provide phase four of the project, which will begin
construction in the coming weeks, with 1.25GWh of batteries.
CATL will supply Gabriela with its EnerX model containers that comprises more than
7,100 modules, which stands out for its high energy storage density and safety at high
altitude of 4000m above sea level, allowing a greater amount of energy to be captured
in less space, and uses LFP technology, making it a safe and reliable.
Grenergy has a strong commitment to sustainability, as evidenced by its collaboration
with CATL, which has an ‘AA’ rating from MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International).
Grenergy has also been recognised by MSCI for the third consecutive year with the
highest rating of ‘AAA’. This strategic partnership reflects a strong long-term
commitment to excellence in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.
Pioneers in energy storage
Oasis de Atacama project is making good progress. Located in northern Chile, Oasis de
Atacama has a storage capacity of 11GWh and a solar capacity of 2GW. With an overall
investment of $2.3 billion, it will produce 5.5TWh of energy annually. Grenergy has
already agreed to sell the energy from the first four phases, with the remaining phases
in advanced negotiation.
‘The collaboration with CATL is a fundamental milestone to consolidate Oasis de
Atacama. We are excited to have signed this first contract and to be working with the
world's leading battery manufacturers on a project that will make industry history,’ said
David Ruiz de Andrés, Executive Chairman of Grenergy.
For his part, Mr Tan, Chief Customer Officer and President of ESS at CATL said: ‘CATL
remains steadfast in its commitment to accelerating a sustainable energy future
worldwide. By collaborating with Grenergy on this pivotal project in the Chilean
Atacama Desert, a region renowned for its abundant solar resources, we're excited to
empower the Chilean people with consistent and reliable access to clean electricity
through our state-of-the-art energy storage solutions.’
