Trust is a fundamental value both in the energy sector and in Norwegian society. Is trust under challenge? Are we naive to believe that the so-called “Norwegian model” can withstand the pressures on democracy, the threats from an unsettled world, the invasion of artificial intelligence and the transition to new energy industries?
The topic was given wide-ranging consideration during Havtil’s Top Executive Conference 2024, which was held on 30 October. Unequivocal answers to the big questions are clearly not within our reach. But maybe that’s not the point here. The debate itself is more important.
And debate there was – flanked by a series of fascinating and thought-provoking presentations and lectures. On stage were many of the country’s sharpest, most perceptive opinion-formers. A thorough discussion of the significance of trust saw input from industry leaders, trade unionists, a government minister and other knowledgeable contributors.
Four angles of approach
The backdrop for the Top Executive Conference is safety and security in the energy sector. The day comprised four main focal areas:
Trust in a new era
Trust in technology
Trust in the tripartite cooperation
Trust in the Norwegian model within new industries
