Vaisala to Build New Automated Logistics Center in Vantaa, Finland

Vaisala, a global leader in measurement technology, is preparing its operations for future growth by building a new automated logistics center in Vantaa, Finland. The project will centralize all of Vaisala’s logistics operations in Finland into one facility and enhance efficiency with state-of-the-art automation technology.

The investment will double the capacity in logistics and enable the conversion of current logistics space into production use, hence increasing production capacity by 20%. The value of the investment, communicated in May 2024, is approximately EUR 10 million.

The new logistics center will span approximately 2,000 square meters with a height of 12 meters, compared to the 3,000 square meter space and 4-meter height of the current facilities. This compact yet vertically efficient space, achieved through advanced automation, will allow for optimized storage and logistics processes.

The new comprehensive warehouse automation and robotic solutions will allow us to continue to ensure the efficiency of our logistics as well as our fast deliveries to customers all around the world,” says Vesa Pylvänäinen, Executive Vice President of Operations at Vaisala.

Vaisala has selected Element Logic Finland to implement a customized automation solution for the center.

The new automated system will feature AutoStore technology with 8,000 ESD-protected storage bins, 10 robots, and 6 ports for picking and putaway, enabling faster and more reliable material handling. Centralizing logistics functions will also create synergy benefits by bringing all processes into one efficient space, reducing lead times and streamlining operations. The new logistics center is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025, ready to support Vaisala’s commitment to timely and efficient service as the company continues to drive sustainable growth. After it is put into use, the old warehouse will be renovated into production space, expanding the production capacity on the Vantaa campus.
