Today, Alfa Laval is joining leaders across the maritime value chain to sign a Call to Action at UN’s climate conference COP29. The Call to Action is launched to accelerate scalable zero emission fuel uptake, investment in ammonia and methanol-enabled vessels, as well as the development of infrastructure for green hydrogen-derived fuels.

Organized by RMI, the UN High-Level Climate Champions, UCL Energy Institute, and the United Nations Foundation, this Call to Action demonstrates strong industry momentum in decarbonization through ecosystem wide investments and gathers the full maritime value chain including e-fuel producers, vessel and cargo owners, ports, and equipment manufacturers.

Alfa Laval is committed to support the marine industry to enhance energy efficiency, reducing costs and emissions, all while incorporating technologies for future fuel solutions. Our innovation and development solutions facilitate the adoption of low and zero carbon fuels, and support the transition to carbon free technologies and smart operations.

A maritime call to action for green shipping
The Call to Action is called ‘Green Hydrogen and Green Shipping: Amplifying the Power of Hydrogen in a Just and Equitable Transition’, read more here.

Close collaboration and coordination between green hydrogen producers, shipping actors, and policy makers is vital to build the enabling environments, as ensuring the right policy instruments and architecture that will support hydrogen-derived scalable zero emission fuels is paramount. A number of key steps are already being taken – orders for dual-fuel vessels are on the rise, increasing numbers of governments are developing national hydrogen policies, demand for zero emission shipping services is rising, and regulation of shipping fuels will serve to establish significant demand, accelerating all aspects of this ecosystem.
