GreenGo announces the approval of three projects in the first Italian agri-voltaic tender, promoted by the Italian Ministry for the Environment and Energy Security (MASE), an initiative that has seen 540 projects awarded for a total power of 1,548 MW attracted (compared to 643 proposals for a total requested power of 1.7 GW) compared to the total ceiling of contributions amounting to around 1 billion euro.
Approved GreenGo projects will receive an average incentive tariff of EUR 79.53 per MWh for the next 20 years after commissioning, in addition to an eligible contribution of EUR 10.8 million towards investment costs.
The plants are located in Sicily and Calabria and are already covered by project financing from Intesa San Paolo, which was signed in August (read the press release). This allows construction work to begin immediately.
Fabio Amico, Business Development Director of GreenGo, commented:
“This award highlights our ability to effectively manage the sector’s regulatory and technical complexities and quickly seize business opportunities in the Italian energy transition thanks to an extraordinary team now integrated across the entire value chain. Given the conditions of the PNRR call for tenders for agri-voltaics, with this result, GreenGo once again demonstrates its standards of very high quality and reliability in all the contexts in which it operates, in the different regions and with diversified, in this case, highly innovative technologies. As a new industrial reality on the renewable energy scene, we are thus laying a solid foundation for a long course as an IPP: having already endowed the projects with financial resources for construction makes us extremely confident that we will be able to complete construction and commission the plants by the end of 2025, well ahead of the June 2026 deadline of the NRP.”
Selected projects and the MASE call for innovative agri-voltaics
Here are the details of the projects awarded by GreenGo:
• Hyperion Srl. Soparita plant, province of Catania: 7,95 MWp.
• Solar Community Srl. Arango plant, province of Catanzaro: 6,71 MWp.
• Uberna Srl. Margherita plant, province of Crotone: 8,28 MWp.
The plants are expected to produce 43.6 GWh per year, equivalent to the consumption of about 17,000 Italian households and the saving of 14,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year.
The call, which is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (in Italian, PNRR), favours projects that combine agricultural activities with vertical mounting structures or high-efficiency PV modules, guaranteeing significant refunds and incentive tariffs for the withdrawal of the energy produced by the plants. For GreenGo, thanks to a winning bidding strategy, this recognition and the consequent opportunities reflect the company’s aim to be at the forefront of the green economy, confirming its commitment to sustainability and efficiency in the Italian energy transition.
Agri-voltaics as a GreenGo specialisation
GreenGo is a leader in agri-voltaic innovation, with 48% of its pipeline (a total of 1.8GWp) dedicated to this frontier technology. The simultaneous participation of three projects of similar size in two different regions demonstrates the solidity of GreenGo’s RES development system.
GreenGo’s special focus on agri-voltaics also touches on the field of research, materialising through its collaboration with the University of Catania and through the funding of a project by the Di3A department to identify scientific models and best practices. This partnership allows exploring new cultivation techniques under solar panels, optimising agricultural production in harmony with energy production.
