The Mérida facility has just completed a planned shutdown in which more than three million euros have been invested in maintenance and improving the efficiency of the facilities.
The Mérida plant has consumed nearly 125,000 tons of biomass between January and November 2024.
Magnon Green Energy, Ence's renewable energy subsidiary, has generated more than 82 GWh of renewable energy from biomass at its Mérida plant in Extremadura between January and November 2024. This amount is sufficient to cover the electricity needs of nearly 70,000 people, that is, to supply a city larger than Mérida.
This data reinforces the company's commitment to sustainability, the circular economy and the decarbonisation of the Spanish electricity system.
Commitment to rural development
Magnon Green Energy, a leader in renewable energy production from forest and agricultural biomass in Spain, has an installed capacity of 20 MW in Extremadura, rising to 266 MW in Spain.
The company, which is firmly committed to rural development, is promoting other important projects in the areas of biofuels and industrial heat to boost decarbonisation, thereby reaffirming its commitment to a fair energy transition aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Biomass: manageable and stable energy
Magnon valorises biomass coming mainly from agricultural and forestry activities in the surroundings of its plants, consolidating this renewable energy source as a key factor for the stability and decarbonisation of the national electricity system. As it is a completely manageable energy, it allows constant production without depending on weather conditions, which makes it a real alternative to other non-renewable energies.
In addition to leading the production of renewable energy, Magnon acts as an economic engine in rural areas of Extremadura, where it generates employment especially in the capture, transportation and treatment of biomass consumed by its plants, close to 125,000 tons in Extremadura consumed until November of this year.
