Work is underway to install shore power at Berth 3 at Montrose Port, with operations set to go live in February. This significant upgrade aligns with our commitment to sustainability and innovation within the maritime sector.

Electrifying Our Berths
Once the Berth 3 installation is complete, 30% of our berths will be electrified, allowing offshore energy support vessels to connect to Plug Montrose, our cutting-edge shore power facility that has been developed in partnership with leading shore power specialists, Plug.

By connecting to shore power instead of relying on traditional diesel engines to power onboard functions, vessels will be able to significantly reduce emissions while at berth, particularly as the electricity supplied through Plug Montrose comes with a Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO).

This initiative is a crucial step in reducing environmental impact of port operations and supporting the decarbonisation of vessel operations.

Why Shore Power Matters
Shore power offers numerous benefits to the maritime sector, including:

Reduced Emissions: Shore power allows vessels to switch off their engines, minimising greenhouse gas emissions and providing cleaner air in and around the port.
Energy Efficiency: By connecting to shore power, vessels can operate more efficiently, reducing fuel consumption and operational costs.
Improved Welfare: With engines switched off, noise pollution is substantially reduced, benefitting the local community and the crew on board. Crew members can perform maintenance tasks in quieter conditions without the need of ear defenders.
Sustainability Leadership: Facilities like Plug Montrose position ports as leaders in environmental stewardship, meeting the growing demand for greener supply chains.
