CleanJoule, the full performance sustainable aviation fuel company, is positioned to advance its market position throughout 2025 following a transformative year that saw the company deliver on a series of significant achievements and corporate milestones. Among the largest moments of 2024, CleanJoule entered ASTM International’s certification process for its CycloSAF™ fuel, unveiled SpaceSAF™ as a cutting-edge drop-in replacement for Rocket Propellant-1 (RP-1), and continued to expand its operations by doubling its headcount and building out its demonstration manufacturing plant in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“CleanJoule is laser focused on energy expansion. At the rate at which air travel is growing, the current-petroleum based Jet A supply can simply not keep up. The industry requires more sources of aviation fuel and the United States has more than a billion tons of biomass that can be converted to meet this need through domestic production,” said Mukund Karanjikar, CEO and Founder, CleanJoule. “We are proud to be at the forefront of bringing advanced, scalable aviation fuels to market and driving domestic job creation, supply chain resiliency, and national security as a result.

Key 2024 CleanJoule achievements include:

- Entering ASTM Certification Process for CycloSAF™: In September, CleanJoule’s CycloSAF™ fuel, a revolutionary sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with 10 percent higher energy density than Jet A, entered ASTM International’s certification program. This milestone marks a crucial step toward commercializing CycloSAF™ as a drop-in solution for the aviation industry, significantly reducing carbon emissions without requiring infrastructure changes. ASTM’s rigorous testing and approval process will provide vital validation as CleanJoule works with key stakeholders to advance the adoption and scalability of sustainable fuels.

- Launch of SpaceSAF™ for Sustainable Space Missions: Earlier this month, CleanJoule announced the launch of SpaceSAF™, a superior drop-in replacement for Rocket Propellant-1 (RP-1), designed to reduce the carbon footprint of space missions. SpaceSAF™ is engineered to deliver high performance for rocket propulsion systems while addressing the growing need for sustainability in the aerospace industry. This breakthrough biofuel is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable space exploration with 4 percent greater energy density than RP-1, and reduce the impact of space launches on the stratosphere.

- Renovation of New Salt Lake City Demonstration Manufacturing Plant: In a major move to ensure readiness to scale, CleanJoule renovated an existing factory into a new, state-of-the-art demonstration manufacturing plant in Salt Lake City, Utah. The facility significantly increases CleanJoule’s capacity to produce CycloSAF with a maximum output of 60,000 gallons per year. This plant will serve as a blueprint for full-scale CycloSAF plants worldwide ensuring production readiness upon receiving ASTM International approval to sell the fuel.

- Broadening of Department of Defense Relationships: CleanJoule was selected by the DoD’s Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program as an awardee to expand the domestic supply of ingredients and materials for U.S. supply chains by building bioproduction infrastructure.

As CleanJoule looks to 2025, the company is going to build out its first full-scale manufacturing plant in the United States. With the successful completion of key milestones in 2024, CleanJoule is well-positioned to deliver impactful energy expansion while powering the future of clean energy in the skies and beyond.
