Equinor and Polenergia, which are jointly developing offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea, have received the first delivery of HV 220kV and EHV 400kV cables for the onshore part of the Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 projects.

Polish Tele-Fonika Kable is responsible for the design, production and delivery of the cables, and has delivered the first 24 drums with a total tonnage of 310 tons. This delivery marks the beginning of a schedule covering a total of more than 120 km of cables (198 drums), which will be delivered in subsequent stages according to the project plan. The HV and EHV land cables delivered to the two projects are 100% manufactured at TFKable Group’s Bydgoszcz plant.

TFKable belongs to a small group of the most specialized and technologically advanced suppliers of medium, high and extra-high voltage cable systems. The Group is a global supplier of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) cable systems for the energy sector, including the renewable energy sector.

Installation of the cables supplied by Tele-Fonika Kable will be handled by Enprom, one of Poland’s leading power construction companies operating at home and abroad, which will build the onshore cable lines for both projects. Enprom will be the main contractor for four 220 kV cable tracks of about 7 km in length, which will connect the offshore cables to the projects’ onshore substations, and two 400 kV tracks that will then lead to a PSE substation located more than 6 km away. All sections will also be accompanied by telecommunications fiber optic cables.

About the Baltyk offshore wind farm projects
The Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 offshore wind farms, which are being developed in the first phase of offshore wind energy development in Poland, are located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, between 22 and 37 km from the coastline. The first energy from the projects is expected to flow into the grid as early as 2027, the commercial phase of their operation is planned from 2028.

In the next phase of offshore development in Poland, Equinor and Polenergia are developing the project of the largest wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea – Baltyk 1, with a capacity of up to 1560 MW, which will be 81 km from the shore. The project is being prepared for auction in 2025.

The Baltyk offshore wind farm will power more than 4 million households with green energy.
