Petrobras will apply an average reduction of 1% in the sale prices of the natural gas molecule, in relation to the previous quarter, according to the contracts agreed by the company with the distributors. The new values ??will be valid as of 02/01/25.
Contracts with distributors provide for quarterly updates of the portion of the price related to the gas molecule and link this variation, upwards or downwards, to fluctuations in Brent oil and the R$/US$ exchange rate. For the quarter beginning in February 2025, the oil reference (Brent) fell 6.0% and the exchange rate depreciated 5.3% (i.e., the amount in reais to convert into one dollar increased 5.3%).
accumulated fall
Since December 2022, the average price of the molecule sold to distributors has accumulated a reduction of up to 23%, including the effects of the 1% reduction in February 2025 and the application of performance and demand incentive bonuses, approved in May and October 2024, respectively.
“Petrobras is working to offer a commercial portfolio with increasingly competitive products to its customers, so that they can create the portfolio that best suits their needs. We expect to invest more than US$7 billion in new natural gas supply infrastructure, in addition to offering different contract options, with different terms and indexes,” highlights Maurício Tolmasquim, Director of Energy Transition and Natural Gas.
Petrobras emphasizes that the final price of natural gas to the consumer is not determined solely by the company's sale price of the molecule, but also by the cost of transportation to the distributor, by each distributor's supply portfolio, as well as by their margins (and, in the case of NGV – Natural Gas for Vehicles, by the resale stations) and by federal and state taxes.
Furthermore, consumer rates are approved by state regulatory agencies, in accordance with specific legislation and regulations. The company also emphasizes that the update announced for 02/01/25 does not refer to the price of LPG (cooking gas), packaged in cylinders or sold in bulk.
