United H2 Limited (UHL) believes it is in a strong position to become a leader in the space through its strategy to build a diversified clean energy holding company with projects ranging across the entire sector, from production to end-use.
Renewable energy engineering company Canopy Power and Ocean Sun have formed a strategic partnership to introduce new-generation floating solar technology to Australia. The collaboration centres on Ocean Sun’s patented circular floating solar system, which features a 70-metre diameter buoyancy ring covered by a reinforced membrane to which solar modules are attached.
Amp Energy, backed by United States-headquartered investment firm The Carlyle Group, has successfully closed project financing to construct the first stage of its Bungama Battery Energy Storage System and solar development project in South Australia. Construction of the 150 MW / 300 MWh first phase of the multi-stage project commenced in October, and the battery energy storage system (BESS), located about six kilometres east of Port Pirie in South Australia’s mid-north, is expected to come online in the first quarter of 2026.
The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has detailed in its regular quarterly reporting that grid-scale BESS output achieved new quarterly high net revenues. Reporting on the final quarter of 2024 of Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) energy flows and costs, AEMO’s report said the estimated net revenue for grid-scale batteries or big BESS, covering both energy and frequency control ancillary services (FCAS) markets, reached $69.5 million. Year-on-year, the rise is more than double Q4 2023 revenue of $31.5 million.
The joint venture between BP and Iberdrola has announced the start of construction work on Spain’s largest green hydrogen project, with a capacity of 25 MW. The project could generate up to 500 jobs during the construction phase, which will involve the participation of approximately 25 Spanish companies.
The UK government has granted a development consent order for the Immingham Green Energy Terminal in northern England, which would include infrastructure to crack imported ammonia into hydrogen. Immingham is one of three ammonia terminals under development in Europe by industrial gas firm Air Products.
