Iberdrola awards Ingeteam €350 million in purchases over the 2020-2024 period

Iberdrola's Global Procurement Director, Ignacio Sánchez-Galán, visited Ingeteam's facilities in Beasain, Gipuzkoa today. He was accompanied by Ingeteam's CEO, Adolfo Rebollo, and Asís Canales, Iberdrola's Global Director of Resources and Services.

During the visit, Ignacio Sánchez-Galán highlighted the company's firm commitment to the Basque Country. This is expressed in the recent orders Iberdrola has placed with Basque suppliers. One of these is the company Ingeteam, based in Zamudio, Bizkaia. The purpose of the visit was to learn about how of Ingeteam Indar Machines manufactures and produces generators in Beasain for Iberdrola's Villarino hydroelectric power plant in Castilla y León first-hand.

Purchases from the company chaired by Teresa Madariaga have accumulated a value of just over €350 M over the last five years. These contracts are mainly for Iberdrola's renewable energy projects, grid digitalisation and the economy’s electrification.

In terms of renewable energy projects, of note are the contracts for the future supply of 6 motor-generator stators for the Villarino plant for €22 M, the transformation centres for solar plants and for storage for 4 photovoltaic plants (Almaraz I, Almaraz II, Andévalo, Revilla Vallejera), the purchase of integrated operation and control centres for the substations of the Tâmega Norte and Tâmega Sul farms in Portugal, and the purchase of the starter for the Tâmega Norte and Tâmega Sul plants in Portugal, Andévalo, Revilla Vallejera), the purchase of integrated operation and control centres for the substations of the Tâmega Norte and Tâmega Sul wind farms in Portugal, and the starter for the Valparaíso hydroelectric plant, which will allow Ingeteam to take advantage of opportunities in pumping technologies. In grid digitisation, noteworthy are the agreements reached in Brazil for new substations and the agreements to supply protection and control equipment for substations in Spain. In relation to the economy’s electrification, of particular note are the contracts to supply equipment to charge electric vehicles and battery storage systems in Spain, the United Kingdom and Portugal, as well as opportunities in the electrification of ports (OPS) and the production of renewable hydrogen, where Ingeteam is a benchmark in the manufacture of rectifiers.

These partnerships reflect Iberdrola's long-standing ties with the Basque Country, where it has spent decades promoting the revitalisation of industry and the improvement of the competitiveness of its business fabric, as well as the creation of quality jobs in the industries of the future. Iberdrola's global growth has become a driving force for the internationalisation of hundreds of Basque companies, which have been demonstrating for years their ability to provide highly competitive and high quality products and services all over the world.

Iberdrola's tax contribution in 2024 has grown by 15% to nearly €800 M. Iberdrola is one of the driving forces of the Basque Country's economy, with a €3.5 B impact on its GDP in investments, purchases, salaries and tax contribution. The company supports a total of 30,000 jobs in the Basque Country.

Iberdrola's internationalisation over the last 20 years has had a direct impact on Basque suppliers, including companies such as Haizea Wind, Ingeteam, Ormazabal, Arteche and Siemens-Gamesa, with annual purchases amounting to over €3.3 B.
