Maynilad is actively assisting in the cleanup of the San Isidro River in San Pedro City, Laguna, following an oil leak caused by a fire at a private warehouse in late January. The leakage of weathered oil into the river was urgently contained before it could reach Laguna Lake itself, however, full cleanup remains necessary to prevent any risk of contamination during heavy rains.
At the request of the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), Maynilad deployed vacuum truck units (VTUs) to help remove the leaked oil, successfully extracting over 128,400 liters to date. The company also provided 104 drums for oil storage, deployed water tankers for post-cleanup washing, and sent Selwood pumps to aid in oil recovery efforts.
Maynilad personnel have been working non-stop, including Sundays and holidays, to expedite the cleanup. Several teams were deployed in shifts to the site, with personnel averaging more than eight hours per day over the last 14 days. The company remains committed to supporting LLDA, Philippine Coast Guard, and other agencies in fully mitigating the oil leak’s impact.
