Iraq Ministry of Oil Holds Workshop to Reduce Carbon

The Ministry of Oil - the Office of the Ministry's Advisor for Energy Affairs, in cooperation with Schneider Electric East Med and the Training and Development Department, organized a workshop to reduce carbon and emissions associated with oil operations.

The representative of the Office of the Ministry's Advisor for Energy Affairs, Mohammed Jawad, said that this workshop is a continuation of a series of workshops implemented by the Ministry to discuss carbon and emissions reduction projects and achieve the Ministry's goals of reaching a complete reduction of carbon and associated gas in 2030.

He explained that the Ministry is working to develop and build skills among specialists from the staff of oil companies by organizing interactive training workshops with international bodies specialized in the field of reducing emissions by adopting advanced technology in addition to adopting technology for integrated oil operations and using other energy sources to support efforts made to reduce carbon and thus support the government program and the Ministry's plans to reduce emissions associated with oil extraction operations.

For his part, the official responsible for the oil and gas management at Schneider, Ahmed Al-Rahman, confirmed that the workshop is the result of strategic cooperation with the ministry to develop efforts to reduce gas flaring emissions by adopting modern methods in building technical skills among trainees from the ministry's companies' staff. He added that the workshop reviewed the technologies and mechanisms adopted to reduce the carbon footprint and emissions associated with oil production operations. The workshop presented technical and technological plans to identify the most important weaknesses in efficiency and emissions and how to sustain the oil sector as the leading sector and one of the causes of carbon and methane emissions by adopting modern technology and automation. The participants in the workshop implemented interactive virtual experiments to identify the challenges facing emission reduction projects in addition to finding effective solutions according to the laws and work regulations adopted in the oil sector.
