Yokohama, Japan - JGC Corporation has been awarded a contract by Aramco Overseas Company B.V., the subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), and Sumitomo Chemical Company Ltd. (Sumitomo Chemical) of Japan for the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) services, of a High Olefin Fluid Catalytic Cracker (FCC) and an Ethane Cracker, to be constructed at Rabigh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The FEED services will be executed under a cost reimbursable contract, with delivery scheduled for the end of September 2005..

Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical are jointly planning the world’s largest integrated refining and petrochemical complex at Rabigh. The High Olefin FCC and Ethane Cracker are the main facilities of the Complex, producing approximately 1.3 million tons per year of ethylene and 900,000 tons per year of propylene..

JGC has executed large petrochemical plants projects in Japan and Singapore for Sumitomo Chemical, and has extensive accumulated experience in the design and construction of refineries and huge gas processing plants for Saudi Aramco. It is believed that JGC’s strong background was highly appreciated by the Clients, contributing significantly to the appointment of JGC as their nominated contractor..

Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical are planning to establish a new joint venture in the middle of 2005. The target date for the completion of this Complex, following its start-up, is mid-2008. It is the sincere intention of JGC to perform the FEED services at the highest level of quality and in the most efficient manner possible, with the results leading to establishment of feasibility and realization of this Complex Project..

For Sumitomo Chemical, this project will open a new stage in its worldwide business strategy as a first effort directed at establishing a foothold in an oil and gas-producing country. For Saudi Aramco, the project will be an opportunity for increased industrialization and provide a platform for broad downstream conversion industry development in the country. It will also serve to attract foreign investment, expanding the local economy and providing increased job opportunities. It is JGC’s pleasure and privilege to participate in such an important project for both of the Clients..

Numerous petrochemical projects are planned in the Middle East, and JGC will make further enhanced efforts to win contracts on those projects..
