With the construction of its latest project in Lower Saxony, Axpo today reaches the 100th wind farm milestone. This milestone project in the municipality of Uehrde will supply around 12,000 households with sustainable electricity upon completion.

The official start of construction was marked today with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony by Axpo and its subsidiary Volkswind, with which it develops wind farms in the German and French markets. The wind farm will have a total capacity of 18.6 megawatts and will comprise three modern Vestas wind turbines. Commissioning is scheduled for fall 2026. Once commissioned, the turbines will feed around 48 million kilowatt hours of electricity into the grid annually – enough to meet the needs of approximately 12,000 four-person households.

Axpo drives forward expansion of wind energy

Katja Stommel, Head of the Wind Division at Axpo and CEO of Volkswind, says: "We are delighted to be building our 100th wind farm. This demonstrates our clear commitment to expanding renewable energies. But this is just the beginning."

Since acquiring Volkswind in 2015, Axpo has significantly expanded its international wind energy activities. Today, the Axpo Group operates around 600 wind turbines in 100 wind farms, saving several million tons of CO2 annually and supplying around 800,000 four-person households across Europe with climate-friendly electricity.

Axpo's wind energy division currently employs over 200 people and continues to grow. Axpo successfully operates Volkswind in Germany and France. The company's expansion into Finland, Romania, and Switzerland demonstrates its ambition to become a European leader in wind turbines.

Axpo intends to significantly expand its wind power capacity in the coming years – both in Switzerland and through expansion into new European markets. As a Swiss energy company, Axpo is also focusing on the domestic market and plans to develop and implement wind projects throughout Switzerland. This national presence and international expansion serve the overarching goal of increasing the supply of renewable energy and sustainably reducing CO2 emissions.
