J P Kenny, a subsidiary of Wood Group, has been awarded a contract by Zadco for the design of the potential replacement Zakum Main Oil Line (MOL) in the United Arab Emirates of Abu Dhabi.
The existing MOL transports the Upper Zakum production through a 60km long x 42” diameter pipeline from Zakum Central Complex to Zirku Island. The pipeline has been in continuous service since 1982, and the fields have a significant production life remaining therefore the operator, Zadco, has decided to embark on a pre-emptive programme to consider the need for a possible replacement.
J P Kenny’s scope will include
site survey data collection/ review, optimisation/ selection studies, HSE/ risk assessment, value engineering and conceptual design of the replacement. Thereafter should Zadco decide to proceed with the project there is an option for J P Kenny to provide front end engineering (FEED) for the project.
J P Kenny’s chief executive officer, Steve Wayman, said, ‘The strategic importance of this pipeline prompted the operator to seek the services of an international expert in this field, and we are very pleased that our global track record and technology focus have been recognised in this way. We view the Middle East as very important geographical area for J P Kenny.’
The work will be carried out jointly by J P Kenny’s offices in Abu Dhabi and London.
