Sahara Delays Commercial Operation of Al Waha Plant

Reference to our advertisement published on 26th October 2010 on Tadawaul website which stated that Sahara’s affiliate, Al-Waha Petrochemicals Company, would initiate its commercial operation by the end of 2010, we would like to notify you that Al-Waha plant is under comprehensive maintenance at the time being due to underground water pipes rupture in addition to one of the pumping devices breakdown in PDH plant. This shall require some spare parts to be imported from abroad. The maintenance team is exerting maximum efforts to re-start Al Waha plant operation, expected to start between 20 to 25 January 2011. After that, the operation team shall initiate the performance test in PDH plant, the last unit to be tested, and the success of such tests shall mark the commercial operation of Al Waha which is expected, God Willing, by the end of the 1st quarter 2011.

It is worth mentioning that the PP unit performance test had been completed successfully, as advertised on 26th Oct., 2010. Al Waha could produce 304430 (three hundred four thousand and four hundred thirty) tons of polypropylene during the experimental operation phase and the entire quantity was sold with a value of USD 1.389 billion.
