Pakistan's Prime Minister Asif Ali Zardari is to invite Russian giant Gazprom to join the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

The Prime Minister's Adviser on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Asim Hussain, who is accompanying the president on his four-day visit to Russia, which began Wednesday, will brief the Russians about progress on the projects, the official said, Iran's SHANA news agency reported.

An agreement is expected on energy cooperation and engaging Russian companies to help in oil and gas exploration in Pakistan, he noted.

He went on to say that, Gazprom had also shown interest in building energy storage facilities in Pakistan.

Russia's energy giant Gazprom is interested in developing gas fields in Pakistan, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday after talk with his counterpart Asif Ali Zardari.

It's worth mentioning that by endorsement of the contract between two countries (Iran and Pakistan) Iran is responsible for natural gas export to Pakistan from 2014 in amount of 21/5 million cubic meters daily, and 7/8 billion cubic meters annually.
